We lost a true giant of the culture in David Jude Jolicoeur (September 21, 1968 – February 12, 2023). De La Soul were a crucial part of my Hip Hop upbringing. I Can still remember hearing Red Alert play "Plug Tunin'" for the first time. It was so odd and goofy and like nothing else on the radio. I bought the album the day it came out. I went to their gigs. I made tapes of them for friends. I played their records in clubs for decades. I still listen to De La to this day. Trugoy the Dove expanded the borders of Hip Hop in immeasurable ways, and we are forever in his debt.
