MIX NOTES

cinnamon – a dreamy hip hop beat to set the tone

day like this – theo parish and tony fucking allen? Sheeeeit. Kind of stuff you buy without even listening to it.

the dig – album track from a record I have recently come to really love, on the 2002 “O.S.T.” – that for LA rap, stands shoulder to shoulder alongside The Pharcyde

mind – swedish born London based vocalist teamed up with Eglo lovable founder and neuroscientist PHD candidate Floating Points for this EP in 2011

sunday’s best – solid MC and Dilla disciple from detroit who I often check for. This came out in March of this year.

kick in the door (nottz remix) – from a remix mixtapeby Dj House Shoes – download it for free HERE

take it back – Japanese producer who pretty much nails the 90s sound. From his 2013 “Beat Installments Vol 2″

it ain’t hard to tell (large pro remix)- always loved this remix, which most of us got on a boot back then. Mixed in the acapella just for kicks.

shoreline – from the 2006 NInjatune “Know Your Rodents” LP. I seem to recall Large Professor sampling this same break but I can’t remember what song.

rap dope – nice lyrics from the Los Angeles MC – This came out in September 2012, produced by Bombay

heaven – a DJ who can really write music. Smooth jazzy shit. Came out in February of this year on the UK label Tru Thoughts

grind – Tonio from Dallas hooks up with Oakland MC Hay Sus. I can dig it. From about 3 months back.

siffdigi – DJ/producer from Berlin loops up Ramsey Lewis. Very Paul’s Boutique sounding.

return – classic 1998 shit lamenting the demise of Hip Hop. If they only knew how bad it would get. Produced by Khalil who went on to work under Dre @ Aftermath.

lovers carvings (leatherette remix) – some weird moody shit that came out in 2009. You might recognize the tweaked Dexter Wansel sample

I found my smile again – just some kid on Youtube feeling this shit. Not for sale so I just jacked it :)

i found my smile again – the original D’angelo track from the Space Jam soundtrack LOL

rise up – Oddisee is a great Brooklyn producer that can also seriously spit. This is a collabo from June 2013 with the UK’s Olivier Daysoul and dope producer Eric Lau

set you free – see above. and this is his own track. Too bad shit like this just falls through the cracks these days. Came out in 2012.

black steel – totally forgot about this shit. He really had his moment.

liberation – I buy like three drum n bass tracks a year, just cuz I’m not ready for that sound to totally die. The momentum of a good drum n bass beat is palpable.

dream baby dream – yes, THAT neneh cherry. Weird and great collabo with a Norwegian jazz band that sounds like a Sun Ra out take.
